Ire, the main shuttle bay is cramped. Land in Tartarus, allow your passengers to depart, beam them off, to the appropriate sickbays, whatever you have to do, and head back. No telling when that station is going to fall apart =^= Ire watched as the landing clearance to Tartarus appeared. “Yes sir.” His fingers moved across his console as he swung the runabout towards his new landing pad. =^= Oh, and tell Masters to get the lead out=^= “Yes sir I will.” =^= Hades out =^= Ire entered the landing bay and quickly rotated to land facing the way out. He looked over at Velrek. “We are down. Get them to sickbay.” (Reply Velrek) Ire nodded as Velrek headed out of the cockpit door. Ire looked at the console getting data from the Hades sensors. He set up a least time route back to the outpost. He glanced at a blinking massage the appeared on his console giving him clearance to depart. ~Okay lets go~ He powered up the manoeuvring thrusters as he levitated the runabout off the deck. He pulsed the impulse engines making the runabout move out into space. As he cleared the Hades he ramped up the speed feeling the G-force begin to pile on as the runabout’s internal dampeners struggled to cope. He smiled to himself as he pushed the runabout as he dashed for the outpost. I’ll follow on the returning shuttles.” Sean initially was irate. ~That's my bleeding drop ship.~ He did his best to hide it, pulling on all his bearing and mimicking his mother to boot. "Fine. That makes sense," he said and brought up his wrist tricorder. "Grant temporary access to systems for Ensign Csintalan, USS Hades." He then keyed in his command codes in an encrypted transmission. (Reply Csintalan) "That should be everything, like I told you before, not a scratch." Masters warned. (Reply Csintalan) The Brikar looked at Masters, “Major, if you’re coming let’s go.” Sean nodded and followed the massive humanoid rock. He fell back into a supportive position to whichever direction the Lieutenant was headed, he drew his sidearm and kept it at the low ready. As they continued coreward, Sean would check all intersections on his side of the corridor to ensure they weren't snuck up on. The power on the station went low, at this point Csintalan probably discontinued the power transfer allowing her to leave with the survivors. With only meters left to go Sean saw a big problem. The deck above had split, fallen and settled right in their path. “Well,” Dogan said, “this could be a problem.” "Agreed." Sean said with a sigh. "We could blast through it, cut through with our phasers." (Reply Dogan) "Well, I can scan to see if it's a load bearing bulkhead." he offered bringing his tricorder up. (Reply Dogan) (Posted by Todd) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Research Outpost 47- Corridor 48 - CSec - Lt. Cal Dogan - 0955) "We could blast through it, cut through with our phasers," Masters suggested. Dogan looked the site over skeptically and shook his head, “That might cause a greater collapse than we have.” "Well, I can scan to see if it's a load bearing bulkhead," the marine said. The Brikar nodded, which looked more like a bow. He already knew what the answer was. Stepping forward he gingerly touched the beam. He could feel the stress on the metal. His eyes followed the path of the beam that crossed the doorway, locking the survivors inside. He stepped back and took a deep breath, then turned to look at the marine. “Well Major, here’s the way I see it. I can raise that beam and let you get in to free the people inside. But… I’m uncertain how long I can hold it.” (reply Masters) Dogan moved forward until he could fit his massive form under the beam. Then he backed up a meter, causing the rubble to shift and fall a little. Then, with a deep grunt he straightened himself up until the weight fell across both his shoulders. The beam rose off the deck enough to gain access to the door. The Brikar turned his head and looked at Masters. The strain was clear in his voice when he said, “Well what in the hell are you waiting for?” (reply Masters) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Research Outpost 47- Corridor 48 - MCO, Major Sean Masters - 0956) Sean scanned quickly as the stone man examined it tactilely and visually. The scan revealed that making the fallen structure disappear with charges would not be a good idea. Initial simulations predicted that default Marine procedure would cause substantial tears in the hull opening the compartment to space with an eighty-nine percent probability of collapse of the entire arm of the station. Even considering that, It also would definitely make this escape route non-viable. “Well Major, here’s the way I see it. I can raise that beam and let you get in to free the people inside. But… I’m uncertain how long I can hold it.” Sean didn't break any records, he wasn't the Marine in the Company that held the record to the greatest mass deadlift either, but by human standards he was pretty damned strong. However the Lieutenant's casual offer to hold up the very deck above was mind blowing to the Marine. "There's gotta be another way around, right?" Sean spun around to think, as he did so he heard groaning of the superstructure metal and some very heavy foot falls. He hadn't looked for just a moment, but when he turned around Dogan already had the deck lifted up onto his shoulder. Sean thought the Security Chief looked annoyed when he said, “Well what in the hell are you waiting for?” Sean held his free hand up, "Okay, I'll hury." He holstered his sidearm and quickly selected what looked to be the safest route; his selection was one along the opposite side bulkhead from where Cal was standing. He advanced on that route with a purpose. He reached into a pouch and pulled out a number of chem-light sticks. He bent the entire hand full allowing each to mix their binary chemical concoction. He shook them and they each emitted a soft orange glow. He dropped them along the path marking a danger area where the deck would fall if the Brikar's strength gave out. (Reply Dogan) He approached speedily but cautiously, using a starfleet emergency code he linked his comms to the shelter internal comms. It reminded him of something a Gunnery Sergeant had told one of the Privates on their and Sean's first patrol as a young 3rd Lieutenant. The private had quipped something about rescuing them and wanting to accept carnal gratitude from any fair maidens. The Gunny had simply said: "Try Starfleet Marines, shit head." "Survivors, this is Major Masters of the Starfleet Marine Corps, we are here to rescue you." Sean spoke into the mic. Even out in the corridor and through his suit he could pick up the hiss of air escaping the shelter as the door opened. "In or out Major." Someone called out from inside the shelter. Sean stepped in through the hatch and closed it behind him. Once he entered he saw a mass of people scattered about, the morale was lower than he'd expected. He saw cots that looked lived in, strewn about in no particular configuration. Blankets and pillows in various positions presumably for individual comfort. "We've got to move." Sean announced. "We have the USS Hades parked outside the nebula." "Why don't they just beam us up?" one person asked. "I don't know if you're aware but, your entire station has drifted inside the nebula. As you're probably aware living on the station, the nebula interferes with many systems including transporters. Shuttles were sent as the safest way to retrieve you." Sean explained. He was immediately bombarded with a cacophony of questions that blended, he was unable to track who said what: "How much time do we have?" "Have they got everyone?" "What about people from other shelters?" "ENOUGH!" Sean yelled out. The crowd quieted down. "Listen, we have limited time," he elaborated. "This structure is falling apart and we had to manually extract your hatch so that you could even leave. One of the Officers is literally holding up your escape route. You have very limited time. If you have EVA suits, don them now. If not your shelter should be equipped with rebreather masks, if you don't have an EVA grab a rebreather and something warm, we'll be walking in the corridors a bit. We'll be moving out to the docking ring and our ride should be there. If you can carry it without slowing you down, you can have it. We leave in five." As the group got their effects, a redheaded woman walked up to Sean, "Major?" "Yes ma'am?" "We're missing one. A Petty Officer from maintenance, he left a little while ago with an EVA." she informed Masters. ~Of all the hair-brained...~ Sean was thinking but kept his bearing. "Do you know where he's headed? Where he went?" Sean asked evenly. "I think he went back to the reactor tanks, trying to figure out what exactly was going on," she said. "Thanks for letting me know. We'll keep our eyes out for him." Sean said, and shortly after he announced; "Time's up. Grab your breathing apparatus of choice and line up at the exit." Sean grabbed the crate with the extra rebreathers and posted up by the exit. He looked out at Dogan. (Reply Dogan) "Everyone line up now. Once you exit, keep close to the left side bulkhead and do not go past the orange lights on the right side." Sean called out. He ensured each person leaving either had an EVA with at least half a tank of air, or a rebreather. Handing one of the extra rebreathers to anyone deficient before sending them out. Cal Dogan - 1000) Cal strained to maintain his position. The weight of the debris across his shoulders was tremendous. He often found himself having to mentally check himself and the amount of strength that he needed to use. Simple tasks, such as shaking hands, were often more taxing on him as he had to display enormous self control not to crush the other persons hand by accident. Something that happened during his first days in the academy. Even in a fight, he rarely was able to let loose the stored up strength for fear of what it might do to his opponent. The rare occasion was when he fought with the Xenolithe. That was one of the rare occasions where he’d been able to unleash, without fear of retribution. But this was different. This was maintaining his strength over a period of time. He really hadn’t had do so this since he left Brikar. At first he was pleased that he was still able to lift and hold such a weight. But as each second ticked by he could feel the weight pressing down on him more and more, and it… hurt. He found himself counting the seconds as he waited for Masters to usher the refugees out of their “safe” place. To his relief, and after an eternity, the door opened, and he saw Masters standing in the doorway, unmoving. “Some time today, Major,” Cal growled through his clenched teeth. Master nodded and spoke back into the room giving directions. Then the first survivor appeared. They looked down the path Masters had created with his flares until their eyes fell upon the Brikarian and his load. Their eyes widened in fear… and understanding. At first they started to walk the path slowly and carefully. The weight of the debris shifted and smal particles fell to the deck floor. “A little faster please,” Cal tried to maintain a calm, urging voice, but he was certain it came out a little more menacing. “I am uncertain… how much longer… I can hold this.” Suddenly, the leader in an EVA suited speed up. The trail of survivors suddenly moved faster, and like a train of ants, streamed down the path and past Dogan. “You,” he barked, “gather everyone towards the end of the corridor and wait for us.” “Y..y…yes sir,” he stammered and grabbed the arm of the next person leading them away from the zone of danger. After that the remainder of the survivors passed him relatively quickly. He looked over at Masters, who seemed to be doing a double check that the room was empty and then ran down the path. Once clear Dogan took a deep breath. This was going to be a little messy. He bent his knees to lower the weight so he could step out. The weight began to shift precariously. Suddenly, with grunt, he pushed up and stepped out from under the debris. With a crash and a cloud of dust there was an avalanche of debris surrounding Dogan. A moment later he stepped out of the cloud and moved to the marine. He shrugged, “To be honest, that was not my intention. If nothing else, it was my hope that you would keep her out of trouble. She is new to my crew, and has marine experience. I thought you’d be a good team up and that yours was the most straightforward of tasks.” He gave a chuckle at that thought and how wrong the assumption turned out to be. "I figured you'd read my file." Sean said. "I am a 'Fleet brat’, and my mother was a tactical officer when I was growing up.” He paused for a moment then went on, “I want to work with you. I know by virtue of your position, the security of the Hades is yours." Cal continued to walk and speak matter of factly, “Major, you seem to be under the impression that either I do not like you or that you want my approval. I assure you that neither of those thoughts are correct. I neither like nor dislike you. I do not know you well enough to make such a judgment. I have, indeed, read your file. However I hold little interest in your personal life, but maintained my interest in your service record.” Finally he stopped moving. “You have clearly earned you place in command of the marines on the Hades. That is not in dispute. My personal feelings about marines have nothing to do with you. My experiences with marines on board the Illuminar was not a positive one. I will be happy to discuss that more at a later time.” Then he continued moving forward. “As for your maines and my security, I see our posts having two very different roles. However, yes I would like to see both teams being able to work together. Just like now.” (reply Masters) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Research Outpost 47- Corridor 48 - MCO, Major Sean Masters - 1013) The Brikar Officer continued moving forward. “As for your maines and my security, I see our posts having two very different roles. However, yes I would like to see both teams being able to work together. Just like now.” To be truthful, Sean was relieved. Going into his third year, this was the first time on fleet duty he didn't immediately have trouble with the boat's chief of security. "I'd enjoy that Lieutenant." Sean admitted. (Reply Dogan) Sean glanced down at his wrist tricorder. "Life signs are..." he paused while interpreting the read out, "maybe not getting stronger, but getting closer." (Reply Dogan) "Given the ambient radiation levels, I'd say we're certainly in the engineering section." (Reply Dogan) "Looks like it's through this hatch." Now at a much closer distance the tricorder downloaded information from the person's combadge. "It's a Petty Officer First Class Tarol Aurin. What's your protocol? Talk, or forced entry?" (Reply Dogan) (Posted by Todd) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Research Outpost 47- Corridor 48 - CSec - Lt. Masters looked at his tricorder and said, "Life signs are… maybe not getting stronger, but getting closer." “Closer?” Cal checked to reading on his tricorder, then he looked around. “Where are we Major? We must be close to main engineering.” "Given the ambient radiation levels, I'd say we're certainly in the engineering section." They walked a little further until Dogan’s tricorder picked up the clear life sign. Masters stopped and turned. "Looks like it's through this hatch." he declared, ducking to make his way in. "It's a Petty Officer First Class Tarol Aurin. What's your protocol? Talk, or forced entry?" “My protocol,” Cal said, “is to not die and make sure nobody else does either, if possible. The radiation in that area is extremely high, Petty Officer Austin’s life signs are getting weaker by the moment. We may not have the time talk.” He looked at the hatch considering his options. He found the panel beside the door and thumped it with his fist. The panel fell away revealing the emergency door release. “I recommend not waiting for permission,” he said as he pressed the sequence of buttons the door hissed and the nomadic released the locking mechanism. He reached his fingers between the hatch and the frame and pulled it open. “I am built to handle the radiation,” he said over his shoulder. “We are going to have to move fast if you follow.” He went through the hatch and found Aurin in the middle of the room. He looked a little disoriented. “Perry Officer Aurin,” the Brikar called out. “Cease what you are doing and explain yourself.” (reply Aurin, Masters) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Research Outpost 47- Reactor 5 Control - MCO, Major Sean Masters - 1017) “Perry Officer Aurin,” the Brikar called out. “Cease what you are doing and explain yourself.” "I figured it out...." the Petty Officer said as he turned around he stumbled, but caught himself on a console. (Reply Dogan) "Figured out what, buddy?" Sean said trying to keep his tone even and non-threatening while he approached the Petty Officer. "Take it easy there, we need to get you outta here." (Reply Dogan) "I think you've been here a little too long, pal." Sean added. "The... tricorder..." Aurin breathed, " take the tricorder." He managed to get those words out before collapsing on the deck. (Reply Dogan) The tricorder skidded easily to Sean due to the lower gravity. Masters picked it up and stowed it in a dump pouch on his right thigh. "It matters less what's on here, but it's likely of note. We can worry about that once we're on the way back with him." He looked at the crewmember, probably around eighty kilos. "Do you mind?" Sean asked. "I can carry him, but we'd move alot faster if you did." Cal moved forward and grabbed the man with one hand and supported him on his feet He began to scan the man with his tricorder. Masters moved up to them. "Figured out what, buddy?" The marines voice was calm and disarming. "Take it easy there, we need to get you outta here." Cal nodded, “I agree. Your cells are inundated with radiation. Your body will not tolerate it much longer. If you do not come with us now the damage may be irreparable.” "I think you've been here a little too long, pal." Sean added. "The... tricorder..." Aurin breathed, " take the tricorder." The man suddenly collapsed. Cal had been taking care to not hold on too tightly and so he slipped through the Brikarian’s fingers. A tricorder slid across the floor. Dogan sighed, reached down and scooped Aurin off the floor. Masters had picked up the tricorder and said, "It matters less what's on here, but it's likely of note. We can worry about that once we're on the way back with him.” He looked over at the crewman in Carl’s arms. “Do you mind? I can carry him, but we'd move alot faster if you did." Avoiding rolling his eyes, Dogan said, “I’ve got him.” He carried the man out of the chamber and began to head down the corridor, in the direction they’d been heading. Hopefully it would lead them back to the main operation center. Suddenly the First Officers voice cut through the comm line to let them know that he was back at the station collecting the station’s commander. "Your two shepherds are retrieving the lost lamb now." Masters replied. "ETA?" Dogan tossed the petty officer over his shoulder then looked at his tricorder. “5 minutes.” (reply Masters) Dogan now moved quickly through the corridors. There had been some damage but nothing that had required a detour. True to his word, five minutes later, they emerged into the operations center. At first glance the operations center looked fairly unscathed. But then he could see the burnt out consoles and scorch marks on the walls. On closer inspection Cal could see blood splatters and a body in the corner. He saw Williams and Guttierez standing on the other side of the room. “Lt. Commander,” Cal nodded. He began the standard checks and had updated his readiness by computer mission minute by minute feed. At roughly 1025 hours, He began a systems check when the sensors indicated a proximity report and turned his attention there when the ops officer reported the same. In the background of the bridge noise he heard the conversation. The ops officer reported configuration unknown. The captain asked for a search through records which Semaj had also initiated but there was no exact match as of yet. “Tactical,” the captain called. It was not a question. It was a practiced expectation. “Scans and sensores are unable to breach the vessels hull at least at this distance. WEAPONS, defenses, and even FTL drive type is unknown at this time. They do not appear to be warping in the traditional sense. He flicked the images to the holographic to the area of the bridge above them, showing the blurred shape of the two large vessels moving toward the nebula and the Hades. The numbers were low because of the slow influx, affected by shuttle only evac. Her background in Engineering let her know that a tractor beam tow out would not be advisable because of the fragile state of the station. At this rate, barring no further complications, the rest of the crew of the station should be back on board in less than two hours. Here was hoping that they didn't have any stragglers. "Sir!" the OPS called out. "Incoming contact, two unknown vessels heading toward our position at high warp." "ETA?" Keira asked as her right leg dropped down to the deck and she rose to her feet. "ETA ten minutes." OPS called out. "Who are they?" Keira asked. "Configuration unknown." OPS responded. "Search the library computer for anything similar." Keira ordered. "Ensign Semaj, raise shields, and ready phasers." she agreed. "Why aren't we getting anything on their tech at this distance, are they blocking our sensors somehow ?" “Yes Captain, It could be jamming technology, or their propulsion type may be creating a field we are not able to pierce as yet. (Reply Semaj, Smith) (Posted by Todd) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Hades -Bridge- CSciO/20 - Lt. SG. Tinmanrion Jayc- 1029) The turbo lift opened and he stepped on the bridge finding Semaj at tactical and the holographic giving tactical telemetry of the incoming unidentified vessels. Jayc closed his padd and gave Semaj a warm smile as he passed his husband. “Glad you’re back,” he whispered as he passed and assumed his position from Skye at Science. “Aye Captain, shields up, phasers ready,” the Vulcan responded to the order he had just received. The main viewer tilted and moved to port as the helm maneuvered Hades between the station and the on coming vessels. Jayc turned science sensors toward the vessels. They were emitting an interesting energy within their warp bubbles. It didn’t seem to be coming from nacelles or an internal warp field generator the way Hades did, or the way a defiant class tight connected engines would. “Captain, I may understand why we can’t get any readings in the vessels yet. The warp field generation seems to be coming from the hull of the vessel itself rather than from noted warp engines.” (Reply Merek) Jayc shrugged. “Good question Captain. I can tell because the way the warp bubbles undulate along the vessels. “ (Reply Merek ) Nodding at the Captain’s considerable engineering skill, he explained. “As you know, The Hades, we creates concentric warp bubbles both drawing the space before us, and stretching the space behind. With these ships, It’s almost the way a snake swim in water. They undulate and maneuver and moves without legs or fins. These vessels have multiple fields working to undulate the space around them.” He split the holographic to demonstrate how the warp fields worked with side to side compression and stretching of space in multiple warp bubbles. (Reply Merek, any) Jayc waved his hand at the two vessels almost swimming in soace even though the blurred unclear hulls didn’t appear to move. “I agree, I have never seen any design like this. Their maneuverability even at high speed must be impressive, especially for large vessels.” “The density of the warp fields almost act as shields as well, protecting the hull of the vessel, like external inertial dampening fields,” Semaj stated.
